History


  • The Bank goes back to the 19th century when first organized banking business appeared in the Gorenjska region. The first municipal bank in the Gorenjska region was established on 25 March 1955 in Kranj.

  • More banks followed in Škofja Loka as well as in Radovljica, Tržič and Bled a year later. Eventually they merged into one bank, which joined the Ljubljanska banka system in 1972, first as subsidiary and from 27. 12. 1989 as a joint-stock company in the system of Ljubljanska banka sister banks.

  • The process of separation from the Ljubljanska banka system began in 1994 by the acquisition of shares held by Nova Ljubljanska banka d.d., Ljubljana in Gorenjska banka d.d., Kranj. The process was completed in June 1996 when the Bank withdrew these shares.

  • Since then the Bank is an independant joint-stock company. It ranks among the medium-sized commercial banks in Slovenia and has also consolidated its position in international banking.
